Most of us here in India might not have been affected very much due to Global Economic Crisis. But it’s hard to note that it’s surely affecting the donations/contributions to various voluntary organizations like NGOs, Orphanages, etc. Despite such circumstances, one cannot deny the fundamental needs of food, shelter and clothing, simply because they are the very means of our existence. Present critical situation is only testing the perseverance of those who really want to contribute something back to the civil society, especially contributing to those who are in dire need. We are glad to inform you that our consistent effort to get borewell water facility at Makkala Mane has succeeded. 17th December 2008 is a memorable day for Makkala Mane. Children of Makkala Mane have finally said good bye to occasional non-availability of water! This borewell project will be extremely crucial for completing the construction work at first floor of Makkala Mane.

To express the solidarity with disabled community Samaja Vikasa Kendra Trust(SVKT) actively participated in the event. The children of our homes i.e. Makkala mane, AshaKirana and the children from  our working areas happily joined the walkathon and enjoyed each and every moment wearing T-shirts and Caps with colorful balloons etc.,

Celebrities from all walks of life -  Cinema, Industry, Business, Education, Politics have enthusiastically joined the walkathon and made the whole event more colorful.

If you are not aware, “The World Disabled Day” is celebrated on 3rd December world over. Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled has planned to mark this wonderful day by organizing the “Great Walkathon.” It’s not a marathon, but it’s an opportunity for all of us to walk for a noble cause. Walkathon is a platform to bring together people from different walks of life along with the differently abled and create a feeling of solidarity. The Great Walkathon intends to sensitize the public about the plight and difficulties of the disabled people and raise awareness find solutions to their prevalent problems.

Walkathon, when? where?
Date: 6th of December, 2008
Time: 3.00 pm to 5.00 pm
Venue: Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bangaluru

The walk is for about 3.5kms starting and ending at Shree Kanteerava Stadium. The event is followed by cultural activities by our very talented blind & disabled children and from other institutions. Organizers are expecting a gathering of around 25,000 enthusiastic participants in this year’s walkathon.

Coincidently, “this year marks the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, making the commemoration of World Disabled Day all the more relevant. With 10% of the world’s population being differently abled, and a majority of this population living in the developing countries, creating awareness & sensitizing the public about this issue becomes very imperative. So let us come together to enforce the judiciary to make the State and Private infrastructure “Disabled Friendly”[Samarthana].”

Walk in the Walkathon, express your solidarity, make a difference!

Our children enacted the Play with the theme “Concern for Older Generations”.
The team consists of
1. Bhaskar as Grand father
2. Prakash as Husband
3. Channabasappa as Wife
4. Manikantan as Son
5. Manju, Parashuram and Daniel as young men of the society.
6. Bheemappa as Narrator.
7. Karthik, Bheemashankar & Umesh as co-artists.

The plays were presented at the Buoyancee centre in front of eminent judges on 15th November 2008. The street plays were judged on the basis of presentation, concept, co ordination, creativity and audience impact. Later the children were transported to different locations where they act out the plays in front of the public.

The objective of the event was to influence the watching crowd as well as the enacting children themselves. When young tender minds bring out a message to build a better society it will definitely easier for them to practice what they preached as older, matured adults.

The first play took place at Bouyancee centre, Diagonal road, Jayanagar 4th Block, Bengaluru. MLA of Jayanagar Sri. B.N. Vijay Kumar was invited as the chief guest. MLA of Chickpet Dr. D. Hemachandra Sagar was the guest of Honor. Children from 7 Educational institutions presented the street plays.

Samaja Vikasa Kendra Trust congratulates the organizers “The Buoyancee activity centre” for their initiative to take up the issues of the present day society and reflected the same in the form of street plays. We sincerely thank our volunteers, Shwetha, Soumya Rao, Ramya Angadi, and others who made this event a big success.

We as a Voluntary Organization look forward for more opportunities for the under privileged children which helps to create more awareness / enlightenment among both children and the society at large. The civil society organizations have to take lead role in the transformation process.

The motivation behind Makkala Habba was to instill confidence and ‘can to attitude’ in children of Makkala Mane and Asha Kirana. All the children (20 from Makkala Mane and 22 from Asha Kirana) participated in various competitions with lot of enthusiasm and fun. The children were divided into two age groups i.e. juniors and seniors. Here are various competitions held during Makkala Habba.

After all the competitions, our guests and volunteers helped us distribute the prizes for winners.

Rotarian Mr. Sathya sponsored the expenses of food for the whole day i.e. Breakfast, Lunch, Snacks, Energy Drinks and Fruits. Our volunteers pooled in money to organize this event. A little child on the street said, “I wish I was rich. And if I were, I would give all the street children the food, cloths, medicines, shelter, love and affection.” If a child on the street (who has nothing) is willing to share, then we all can definitely share something to “change the lives around”. Our trust had started Makkala Mane (home for destitute children) way back in 2004 to provide basic facilities like food, shelter, education, and recreation. Our prime motivation is to provide the children a space for self development, and enabling them to become self reliant and responsible citizen. Our journey so far has brought the ray of hope to expand Makkala Mane for bringing more smiles on the faces of less fortunate children.

With the support of our well wishers and friends like you, we have successfully completed constructing ground floor of Makkala Mane building. Now, we are planning to construct a spacious living room of 540 sq. fts. at first floor. This proposed construction will help us provide better amenities to children at Makkala Mane.

The proposed plan requires an approximate budget of Rs. 4,22,188/- as estimated by professional builders/engineers. We sincerely request your active participation in the proposed project. We are glad to inform you that, we have taken yet another initiative for the benefit of children at Makkala mane. In order to overcome occasional non-availability of water at Makkala mane, we decided to have borewell at Makkala mane premises.

In the month of June 2008, a borewell was drilled at Makkala mane premises with the support and generous help of our well wishers. The cost incurred for drilling and other charges was Rs.52,960/- (Receipts available at Makkala Mane accounts). Makkala Mane is thankful to M/s. Radhika Mandal, Mr. Vivek Anand, member – Sri. P.R. Nagaraja Setty Smt. Shakunthalamma Charitable Trust for their contributions in cash. Mr. Manjunath of Gottigere village who donated a submersible pump and starter panel for the borewell project in kind.

Now for the completion of the borewell project we require Cable, Pipe, and other accessories together with a separate 2KW electricity meter. The details of the cost as per the quotation are as follows.
